Whole grain thin spaghetti tossed with a three-ingredient homemade tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 8 oz whole grain thin spaghetti
- 1 can (15 oz) no-salt-added tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried basil, or 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
- Water for boiling pasta
Why it works
Look for tomato sauce specifically labeled no salt added.
Step-by-step instructions
- Cook spaghetti in unsalted water according to package directions; reserve a little pasta water.
- Combine tomato sauce, olive oil and basil in a saucepan.
- Simmer gently over medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Toss pasta with sauce, loosening with reserved pasta water if needed.
No added salt means no salt added during preparation; naturally occurring sodium varies by ingredient. Check package labels.
